No One Wants to Raise a Bully!

Many mainstream child-rearing practices are linked to the development of bullying. Unfortunately, without knowing it, parents may support bad behavior.  Some parents don’t know how to exercise their authority in a way that creates good behavior.  Without clear limits and positive communication, their children get away with rudeness, disrespect and other problem behavior.

Positive parenting is an antidote to bullying and defiant behavior.  It teaches pro-social and emotional skills that prevent problems. One of these skills is assertiveness. Assertive children can stand up for themselves—and others; they are less likely to bully, or to be bullied.

These skills also improve relationships and academic performance, and help children more effectively handle life’s challenges.

P
arents have the greatest influence on children's behavior.  All parents should learn how to:
  • Adopt a leadership style that prevents bad behavior
  • Help children develop social and emotional skills
  • Set clear limits
  • Teach children to be respectful and responsible.
